Top 5 Things To Do in Jordan

I recently visited Jordan with Travel Talk Tours and while its hard to narrow down all the highlights to just one list, here are 5 of my must do’s to add to your itinerary.

1. Visit Petra… of course!

It would be hard to visit Jordan without seeing their Wonder of the World. Check out 10 things you need to know before visiting Petra for the low down on how to make the most out of your time there.

Check out my article for the secret to getting Petra all to yourself!

2. Camping in Wadi Rum Desert

Wadi Rum is my favourite place in Jordan. I was completely taken aback by its beauty. Wadi Rum shot to fame after being used as the filming location for Mars in the blockbuster movie The Martian. There are many ‘glamping’ sites scattered throughout the desert to make your stay extra special. Watching sunrise over the striking rock formations and red sand was spectacular. We did a Jeep Safari as part of our itinerary with Travel Talk Tours and this was an exhilarating way to take it all in.

The contrast between the red sand and blue sky was so striking!

3. Floating in the Dead Sea

It’s so difficult to describe the sensation and almost something you have to do to understand. Because of the extremely high salt density of the water in the Dead Sea you cannot physically ‘swim down.’ Rather, you are pushed to the top floating. It feels like you are flying because you can put all your weight into the water and still be held above the surface.

No your eyes are not deceiving you… that is me updating Instagram while floating in the Dead Sea 😛
Earlier that day the lighting was different and the ‘endless horizon’ that the haze creates was more prominent.

4. Taking in the bustle of Amman

Amman is such a cool city. It’s no surprise that it is known as the ‘White City’ when you see its unique pastel skyline. The food we had in Amman was some of the best on the trip. This city is a quirky blend of modern and traditional. Between the hectic Souks (markets), stunning mosques, ancient ruins, buzzing restaurants and rooftops bars there is something new on every corner.

On our Travel Talk Tour we stayed at Art Hotel in the heart of Balad (Downtown) which was the perfect place to base ourselves to see all the main sites and be within walking distance of all the best restaurants.

I love how dense the skyline appears when you look at it from above. This photo was taken at the Amman Citadel.

5. Get chatting to the locals, they are amazing!

There is no doubt some cultures stand out in terms of their hospitality, humour and welcoming vibes. Jordan is one of those places. We sat down for dinner on our last night and there was a father eating next to us with his four girls. The girls loved practicing their English and translating the recommendations their father gave for us to order. It was such a simple interaction and just one example of many, but the laughs we had (I didn’t know how to eat one of the dips :P) and the effort they made to include us was really heartwarming and a lovely way to end my time in Jordan.

One more Amman skyline picture… it’s pretty spectacular!
